The Challenge
Delivering complex technical installations within existing venues requires precise spatial information, detailed pre-production planning and coordination across multiple teams. For the Australian Tourism Exchange 2026, Novatech was tasked with delivering three technically complex installations across two iconic Adelaide venues. Each presented unique spatial and structural considerations, requiring accurate venue measurements to ensure proposed designs could be successfully translated into physical installations. Traditionally, this process can involve repeated site inspections, manual measurements and reliance on existing floorplans, introducing potential inaccuracies and additional planning time.
The Innovation in Action
The Australian Tourism Exchange provided the first major live-event application of the technology, Novatech’s Digital Twin Technology, following more than a year of development. Using advanced digital capture technologies, including LiDAR scanning, 3D Gaussian Splatting and RTK positioning, Novatech created detailed digital representations of the event environments. These captured datasets informed the technical planning and design of three installations:
Rather than relying solely on traditional drawings and manual site measurements, the project team could reference accurate digital venue information to assess available space, inform installation requirements and support production planning before arriving onsite.
The Results
All three installations were successfully delivered, with the digital planning data closely aligning with real-world installation requirements, including spatial tolerances as small as a few centimetre. The project demonstrated Novatech’s Digital Twin Technology practical capability to support the planning and execution of complex event infrastructure, validating its application beyond digital visualisation.
Connecting the digital capture directly with technical planning and physical delivery, established an important milestone in Novatech’s Digital Twin Technology development and demonstrated its potential to improve precision, collaboration and confidence in event production.
Key Outcome: The Australian Tourism Exchange demonstrated how Novatech’s Digital Twin Technology can bridge the gap between digital venue capture and physical event delivery, supporting technically ambitious installations through accurate, accessible spatial information.
